Is Lovable safe?

Lovable is a fast, capable way to ship a real app. But "it works" and "it's safe to launch" are different questions. Here's the honest answer for 2026 — and how to check your own app in 60 seconds.

The big one: row-level security (CVE-2025-48757)

Lovable apps typically talk to a Supabase database directly from the browser using a public "anon" key, relying entirely on row-level security (RLS) policies to keep data private. When those policies are missing or wrong, anyone can read — and sometimes write — your tables by calling the API directly.

In May 2025, security researcher Matt Palmer documented exactly this as CVE-2025-48757: 170+ Lovable projects were leaking user data — including PII — because of insufficient RLS. It remains the single most common critical issue we see in Lovable apps.

The other common Lovable gaps

• Exposed API keys. OpenAI, Stripe, or other secrets shipped in the front-end bundle, where anyone can extract them.
• No rate limiting. Login and API endpoints open to brute-force and abuse.
• Missing security headers. No CSP or HSTS, leaving room for XSS and downgrade attacks.
• No error tracking. When something breaks in production, you find out from an angry customer, not an alert.

None of these are unique to Lovable — they show up across AI-built apps. Independent research (Veracode; SusVibes) finds that the large majority of AI-generated apps ship with at least one vulnerability.

Your pre-launch checklist

• Enable RLS on every Supabase table and write owner-scoped policies.
• Move every secret to a server route / environment variable, and rotate anything that was ever in the client.
• Add rate limiting on auth and sensitive endpoints.
• Add security headers (CSP, HSTS, X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options).
• Add error tracking + alerts on payments and auth.
